Porsche 911 Dakar: Sports Car Meets Off-Road Reality

When Porsche announced a lifted, off-road-focused 911, many enthusiasts were skeptical. Could the iconic sports car platform really translate to dirt and gravel? The answer, it turns out, is a resounding yes.

The 911 Dakar features a 50mm lift over a standard Carrera, with a bespoke suspension system that can raise the car an additional 30mm for off-road use. Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus tires provide grip on loose surfaces. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six produces 473 horsepower and drives all four wheels through an 8-speed PDK transmission.

In testing, the Dakar proved surprisingly capable. It tackled sand dunes, gravel roads, and rocky trails with confidence. The Rallye Launch Control mode even allows for controlled wheelspin on loose surfaces — something you would never find on a standard 911.

Limited to just 2,500 units worldwide with a starting price of $222,000, the Dakar is already a future classic. It proves that the 911 platform is far more versatile than anyone imagined.
